Trained as a Graphic Designer my creative history leads me from Newspaper Editorial Design, Brochures and Logos to Wedding Photography, Portraits and Product Photography. Now in my 40’s, a mother of three . I am loving everyday photography and focusing on the little things. Capturing a fleeting mood on the face of a child helps to feed my hunger for capturing the essence of life in my work! My world! I have had so many comments and wonderful encouragement from others in regards to the images I have captured of my own children. I’m now striving to find that fine balance with others children. I’m eager to grab the essence of others and see how far I can run with it! I’m looking for clients with that same open-minded desire! I have a huge desire to make my photography business grow and be successful and sustainable. A lot of “Mum” photographers make the mistake of starting their business based on the fact they have the gear already and so any contribution to the household income is just a wonderful ego boost. They fail (including myself) to make their business one that can maintain itself. They don’t factor in the costs of upgrading technology, replacing old gear and maintenance on equipment. They never think to pay themselves a wage let alone putting some aside to pay super, tax, gst and so on and so forth. A lot of clients forget that every business needs to factor in these costs and often opt for the cheapest professional on the market. Being a mother of three, I have up until now leant on the gear that I have and believed that hubbies income will be enough. Without flexibility to go back to work to make a wage little amounts that come in through photography every now and then are a treat. But now our children are heading up in the years we need that second income badly so to justify my prices and pay respect to paying myself more than $2.50 an hour I have come up with some packages that suit me and hopefully will suit many happy clients. I also believe that by giving my photos away on disk by the 100’s is not an ultimately happy option. To give you the chance to have your images printed professionally for your wall or coffee table will make you and I feel like we have produced something special. We will have achieved something together. If you spent hundreds even thousands of dollars to have me take your images the last thing you want is to have to go down to your local 9c a pic printer and spend more money for an often inferior product. Not that I don’t give you the option to purchase downloads. But that’s only once we have produced something we can hold in our hands! So stay tuned. My packages will be coming your way shortly! I just have to work through what I want to offer! Keep smiling and wish me luck! Nomewome
Why has this picture placed so small? Must fiddle with that later or this will never get posted!… fixed it! 😉
It’s been over a year now since I last blogged. Life has either got in the way or I just haven’t felt like sharing. Autumn brings with it renewed colour and I just can’t wait to get back out there photographing. I have finally got myself a new L-Series lens and so doubling my number of fabulously lovely lens’s.
I really don’t care for the technical side of photography. It is all about the mood I can capture while looking through those lenses. While behind that lens I’m filled with feelings of joy and calculation as to what to set the camera on and the frustration that the camera can’t read my mind and I have to fumble with the dials, thus often missing the mark, as I’m just too slow to set it all perfectly the first time round. Ah, It’s all the fun of it really as the results can be quite unpredictable.
I’ve updated my blogs look and added a few blogs. Time for me to see what everyone else has been up to. Enjoy this time no matter where you are in the world.
I love it when images are so much more when they are blurred. So much emotion and atmosphere here. I love this image!
It’s been a learning experience. I realise we tried to start a business and then had baby number 3 so that limited my capacity to go out selling our tees. If only we had cracked the www. market, or even the mainland market maybe?? We missed out on a grant. No networks. So many factors that ultimately has meant no more fabulous tees made here in Tasmania.
How can we compete with the big outdoor gear labels when they sell 2 x merino tees for $50? Our tees cost more than that per unit to make! …. But it was never about competing! It was just about creating and making an income from something that was going to grow and evolve overtime. Giving people an opportunity to own something unique and made with love. Something limited. A walking piece of art!
Maybe that’s the wrong attitude? It was never meant to be a short term investment but after 5 years of planning, creating and bringing our business into being it’s time to read the writing on the wall! Not once have we had any negative feedback. We haven’t had much of a budget for advertising. We maybe should have not put our tees into shops on commission as there is no incentive to sell? Who knows. Ultimately I believe our drive was purely creative and not selling… We thought the word would spread. But it’s just not the right product.
But I still have this unfulfilled drive to create a business that works for us and the family. I wont be going away. At the moment though we are at a loss to know where to start. Children get sick and being number 1 carer, taxi driver, chef, gardener… the list goes on. But over the next 2 – 3 years I feel a change in the wind. When all are at school. I just have to be more patient and just keep researching when I can. Talking to people and believing that I might still be able to make something work in the end?
Anyhow, we have limited numbers of merino tees left. I’ll forward the list here incase anyone is interested in getting in touch. They are very limited and very unique. Designed and made in Tasmania. There aren’t many things that can boast of this. And a bargain at $90 plus freight. Email me if you are interested at email@example.com
Thank you again to those who did buy a tee! We are humbled by your support and we are sorry to let you down. We know some of you bought over consecutive years and were eager for more! Believe me, we wanted to give you more! ….. All good though. Stay tuned for the next big thing 😉
Have a fabulous day! 🙂
Enjoy the changing season and Happy Easter!
(Just incase I go missing for a few months again!)
Have a fabby one 😉
Hello and Happy November. We have been away and seeing more of our great country. From camping to staying with family. To holiday rentals and motels. We’ve experienced the lot.
From 80th birthday’s in Geelong, to cruising the Sydney Harbour to weddings on the beach at gorgeous Mollymook. What a frantic paced driving experience for two and a half weeks with three kids in the backseat surrounded by stuffed toys and pillows. It was all BRILLIANT!
I haven’t had time to process it all in my head but thought I needed to share just one little piece with you. Floriade in Canberra is once a year. They create a park of gorgeous flowers. We were there on the last weekend of it only to learn the bulbs are all torn out of the ground the week after the show and the park ceases to be full of vibrant displays until next spring.
Thanks Amie for showing us around.
I have been going through my old photos and moving them to a new drive. I do feel slightly uncomfortable not having print-outs or negatives. I am guessing I am not alone in this feeling. Of course people take so many more photos these days and it would take a room to store mine all printed out by the end of my career… Maybe sooner? But they are my legacy! A visual diary of a life lived! Really interesting for others to study in a 100 years time. My descendants maybe?
Anyhow, I came across this one. I actually sold a version some years back to be used in a brochure! I love it. The girls are tweens now. Time just flies! But it is also relevant to our lives now as we currently pack to travel for a few weeks. Unlike so many other families we know we will be staying in Australia. Probably spending twice as much by doing this but we have some family commitments along the way!
Looking forward to leaving this wet-windy State I’m sorry to say. It hasn’t been an easy winter for the outdoor pursuits with a family in-tow here in Tasmania!
I will be in touch!
Enjoy your October!
I am so frustrated! I know I could have done better with my photos but do you think I could get my glass doors unlocked with one hand while they glided around my verandah in front of my nose! AARRGGHHH! So frustrating! One day I WILL get a shot I feel worthy of my wall! I WILL! They are my animal! The one that I feel privilege to see!
A friend who visits and we know then the weather is bad in the highlands!
Have a great week!
Now honestly, I’m back on the path of discovery. What beautiful light we had tonight….. totally out of the blue when the weather has been so crap! That is raining and cold for at least 6 weeks now. I’m starting to think we live in the Antarctic region where in winter, the penguins never see the light of day! But today for the briefest of times it showed it’s face and I thought I would get daughter no. 2 in one of our merino tees to give our FB page a bit of a lift!
Was happy with the result and wanted to share!
